The Causes Of Tinnitus And Ringing In The Ears

<p>A lot of people are troubled by ringing in the ears. The medical name for this symptom is tinnitus. The ears ringing cause varies considerably between people. I’ll discuss a few of them here, but the unfortunate fact is many times we never really know what causes it.

Most people have experienced temporary tinnitus after being around loud noises. Going to a rock concert is a common example. If you only do something like that on rare occasions, the ringing will usually only last a few hours. Unfortunately, repeated  exposure can cause permanent hearing damage and permanent tinnitus.

A simple cause of ears ringing is excess wax in the ear canal. The fancier name for ear wax is cerumen. In this case, a simple cleaning may take care of the problem.

You know this, but it bears repeating: don’t try to clean your ears with anything sharp or pointed. You can get ear cleaning kits at a drug store. A health food store may suggest ear “candling”. I’ve never it but I know people who swear by it.

An ear infection or fluid trapped behind the ear drum is another cause of ear ringing. A decongestant and possibly antibiotics may help in this case.
Over 200 drugs can cause ringing in the ears as a side effect. The most common prescription drugs that can cause ear problems are quinidine, some antibiotics and several chemotherapy drugs. There are others besides these, but these are the ones most likely to cause problems.

Many people are surprised to learn that aspirin is a well-recognized cause of ringing ears. This typically happens with doses above 10-12 standard aspirin tablets (325mg)/day, not the “baby” aspirin dose of 81mg that doctors recommend to some people with hardening of the arteries and other people.

Tinnitus that you only notice it very quiet environment may be completely normal. This type of tinnitus is comparable to slight static on the radio station.
Wherever the noise is coming from, anyone bothered by this disturbing symptom wants to find out all they can about, especially how to get rid of it. Tinnitus Answers provides great information that will definitely help.
