Has tinnitus caused you sleepless nights? Are you hearing humming, buzzing sounds in your ears? Has this caused you to develop inferiority complex within you? If yes, then now is the time to put an end to this curse. For those of you who don’t know, pulsating tinnitus (pulsatile tinnitus) is a disorder caused by a ringing sound that originates in either of the ears or both, often followed by severe pain in the eardrum.

Main cause for this is because of hearing loud music which causes the inner tissue of the ear to get damaged. The blood flow increases to the damaged tissue causing the ringing or the buzzing sound in the ear. In US alone more than 50 million people are suffering from this condition.

The other cause for pulsating tinnitus is the use of medicines such as aspirin. Although this is very rare, but the symptoms would even lead to tumor in the ear. If left untreated, tinnitus can cause ear infection and result in long-term health consequences. Stress can also trigger tinnitus in humans. Tinnitus is mostly found in women and the number of people suffering from this disorder, is increasing at a rapid rate. Main symptoms of pulsating tinnitus are frequent headaches due to the buzzing sound in the ear. The other symptom is the experience of vertigo. Vertigo is a feeling of falling from height, when you are lying down or at standing position. This results in nausea and dizziness.

Pulsatile Tinnitus – 7 Tips to Get Rid of Pulsatile Tinnitus

<p>By Barbara Thomson

If you constantly hear a pulsating or whooshing sound that goes in rhythm with your heart beat, then you must be suffering from pulsatile tinnitus. Also known as the vascular tinnitus, this form of tinnitus is often caused by poor blood circulation or disruption in the blood flow. While pulsatile tinnitus is one of the rarest forms of tinnitus, the effects it brings are equally challenging as the others.

The arterial turbulence, a condition characterized by the plaques or crimps in the arteries located at the neck or head region is one of the most common forms of pulsatile tinnitus. This causes the blood flow to elevate and can even be more severe when a person has a hypertension attack. If the blood flow is increased or elevated as a result of restricted or narrowed down blood flow, the ears can hear a turbulence sound.

This type of tinnitus affects a person differently from other types of tinnitus. Nevertheless, there are some people who can get afflicted by this type and another type. Those who have such conditions agree that the more annoying and irritation sounds they hear are mainly caused by pulsatile tinnitus. One thing this type of tinnitus shares in common with other types is that it is not considered a disease but rather a result of other underlying conditions. Since it can be caused by poor blood circulation or blood flow, the condition causing it must be serious and severe and must be addressed medically. One thing sufferers shouldn’t be worried about is that there are treatments for this condition.

Other underlying health conditions that can cause pulsatile tinnitus include:

1. Arteriovenous Malformations – this condition is caused by the unequal number of veins and arteries located near the auditory nerve along the cranial cavity. The pulsation activity in the auditory nerve causes pulsating sound to be heard.

2. Atherosclerosis – the cholesterol buildup on the artery wall causes the arterial constriction. This condition causes the blood flow to be disrupted; thereby producing a pulsating sound a tinnitus sufferer can hear.

3. Benign Intracranial Hypertension – this condition occurs when the fluid that surrounds the brain experiences inflated pressure. This can lead to hearing loss that is mainly characterized by hearing beating or pulsating sound.

4. Carotid Artery-Cavernous Sinus Fistula – people who have this condition often experienced massive head trauma which usually causes the large veins and large arteries to merge.

5. Middle Ear Infection or Inflammation – this is one of the major causes of increased blood flow or circulation that causes sudden turbulent or pulsating sound, just like the sound heard from flowing water.

6. Hypertension – pulsatile tinnitus can be caused by taking medicines used to treat hypertension or high blood pressure. To correct this problem, the dosage of the medication may need to be lowered or the medication itself may be changed completely.

7. Glomous Tumor – this condition is also called vascular tumor which can occur at the base of the skull in the middle or inside the ear. This condition can be corrected by surgery.

As discussed in this article, pulsatile tinnitus signals other more severe or serious health conditions. To make sure you don’t experience the symptom anymore, the underlying conditions probably causing it must be addressed and treated.

Auditory and visual hallucinations?

I have never experienced anything like this before. I had been drinking last night, not too much though and I went to bed late…
I keep hearing this pulsating ringing noises in both my ears that coincided with my heart beating. When I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, I saw this clock spinning in my mind.

I went into another room and I laid down and the ringing got louder. On the wall I saw what looked like a puppet show of some sorts/video game cartoon. I literally got the hell out of my friend’s house and drove home. I swear I never have been so freaked out in all of my life, or at least for many years. When I got home to my place, it all stopped when I turned the fan on in my room.

I thought this could be the onset of some sort of schizophrenic condition. But, I have looked up this one thing called tinnitus. Look it up if you have a second…oh and my ears still hurt today from the perceived ringing of last night.

What the hell is going on?

The ringing is probably tinnitus. It can change with the position you are in, exertion/heart rate, barometric pressure, lot’s of things including alcohol. It can also pulsate with your heartbeat. It can come and go. Different ppl experience it differently. What you describe sounds like what I get. As for the next day, unless you were exposed to very loud sounds, the “hurt” is probably that it’s continuing, just at a different “volume.” (Sorry, I know the phenomenon, but don’t know how to explain it.) It’s not psychiatric.

Seeing puppets on the wall given what else you describe sounds like a slight buzz and partial sleep state plus perhaps fueled by anxiety about the tinnitus. If something like that happens again while you are up and about fully awake w/o any drugs or alcohol in your system, then get concerned enough to make an appointment with your doctor. Your doc would then rule out medical causes and refer you to a psychiatrist as appropriate. For now, write it off as strange but nothing more.

What is the best medicine for balance disorders,I think its related to the inner ear because I have tinnitus.?

I need to know what is the best medicine for balance disorders and I think its because of Meniere’s disease because of tinnitus.
Thank you

Treatment
There are various options for treating balance disorders. One option includes treatment for a disease or disorder that may be contributing to the balance problem, such as ear infection, stroke, or multiple sclerosis. Individual treatment will vary and will be based upon symptoms, medical history, general health, examination by a physician, and the results of medical tests. Most types of balance disorders will require balance training, prescribed by a physiotherapist.

[edit] BPPV
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is caused by misplaced crystals within the ear. Treatment, simply put, involves moving these crystals out of areas which cause vertigo and into areas where they do not. A number of exercises have been developed to shift these crystals. The following article explains with diagrams how these exercises can be performed at the office or at home with some help: [3] The success of these exercises depends on them being performed correctly.

The two exercises explained in the above article are:

The Brandt-Daroff Exercises, which can be done at home and have a very high success rate but are unpleasant and time consuming to perform.
The Epley’s exercises[3] are often performed by a doctor but can be performed at home. Various devices are available for home BPPV treatment. [4]

[edit] Ménière’s disease
Diet: Dietary changes such as reducing intake of sodium (salt) may help. For some people, reducing alcohol, caffeine, and/or avoiding nicotine may be helpful. Stress has also been shown to make the symptoms associated with ménière’s worse
Drugs:
Beta-histine (Serc) is available in some countries and is thought to reduce the frequency of symptoms
Diuretics such as hydrochlorohyiazide (Diazide)have also been shown to reduce the frequency of symptoms
Aminoglycoside antibiotics (gentamicin) can used to treat Ménière’s disease. Systemic streptomycin (given by injection) and topical gentamicin (given directly to the inner ear) are useful for their ability to affect the hair cells of the balance system. Gentamicin also can affect the hair cells of the cochlea, though, and cause hearing loss in about 10% of patients. In cases that do not respond to medical management, surgery may be indicated.
Surgery for meniere’s disease is a last resort
