Medical Treatment For Tinnitus – Choose the Best Option

By Thomas Coleman

Till the current day, the world of conventional treatment has failed miserably to come with any satisfactory method of dealing with tinnitus. This is particularly serious when viewed with the fact that, more than 40 million people in the US alone suffer from the tinnitus, and hear the disturbing, inexplicable noises associated with the disease continuously, for days, for months and even, in cases, for years. No effective relief is available. These sounds of tinnitus tend to vary over a wide range, and can range from peculiar whooshing or hissing noises to tedious ringing sounds at low decibels. The resultant racket caused is potent enough to drive a person crazy, totally out of his/her senses. It is hard to justify why there are no satisfactory medications available, but the fact remains so. In all probability, the world of medicine, represented by the big corporate pharmaceutical houses is more concerned to earn sizeable profits from the medicines that they manufacture, and are not quite alarmed by tinnitus problems. Tinnitus is by nature, not a life-threatening ailment, and as such, it is perhaps not accorded due importance. When we look at what the conventional modes of tinnitus treatment has to offer, we feel hard-pressed to find even a single satisfactory answer.

Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are however sold in bottles (that are sealed hermetically), or in cartons. However, just like other anti-allergic medicines or anti-depression drugs, they come with sizeable side effects. In fact, these side effects can assume such enormity of proportion that they have to be actually dealt with first, before tinnitus can be treated. This can also take away the mental stability of the affected person. Thus, it is advisable to stay away from them.

Treatment Modes For Tinnitus – The Conventional Way

The distresses that the tinnitus disease brings about are acute. Driven by the sheer agony of this, many patients feel forced to take up medications that are not expected to provide any permanent solution. Lidocaine Infusion Therapy is one such short-term tinnitus treatment. Under this method, a mild dose of lidocaine is introduced into the body through intravenous (IV) injections. However, the relief that this treatment brings does not stay for long – it depends on the basic body system of the person. In general, the beneficial effects can last for two minutes, or can extend for two hours, but never more than that. On top of that, this procedure is expensive as well, and cannot be administered to everyone. If tinnitus has been caused by a tumor that has formed in the middle ear, or any other such external cause, lidocaine cannot be used. A genetically inherited resistance to lidocaine treatment can also make this ineffective. In addition, if tinnitus patients have blockages in the sinoarterial regions or in the cardiac organ (of the 2nd degree or the 3rd degree), and do not use a pacemaker, it cannot be treated by lidocaine infusion.

Adjustments in the osteopathic systems or the chiropractic structures of the affected individuals also are used as part of the treatment. This involves the realignment of the patient’s spine. In certain rare cases, the spine can be placed in a wrong position, heralding the initiation of tinnitus issues. When the spine is placed back in its proper position, the problems can thus be rectified.

In many countries of the East, acupuncture techniques are often used as a remedy against tinnitus. Although the West is yet to recognize the benefits of these techniques, acupuncture has already been proved to be effective in curing tinnitus in countries like China. The actual method entails the selection of certain suitable spots on the body, and the placement of some needles on those spots. High hopes are associated with the probable results of acupuncture treatments, if and when they are applied in the West.

Medical Treatment For Tinnitus: Opt For The Best Course

The holistic modes of tinnitus treatment are the most effective in curing a person from these problems. As can be expected, these treatment methods involve the adoption of a rigorous way of living, with practice of yoga and other exercises (of Vedic origins) strongly recommended, and the regular consumption of foods like vegetables, edibles of an organic nature, and fruits being a must. Those affected by tinnitus are strongly warned against the consumption of all forms of alcohol. Eating meat or other food products made from meat, or smoking is also a strict no-no. Only if all these recommendations are followed, will the person be able to get prepared to deal with the three chief reasons that usher in tinnitus, which is:

Blockades in the sinus,

Exposure to too much stress and anxiousness, and

Factors related to the nerves of the inner parts (Cochlear) of the ear, in the middle.

Medical experts from the holistic schools of thinking are of the opinion that, once the first two reasons have been effectively dealt with, the nerve endings of the affected person recapture to the original sizes and structures. The third factor, which deals with precisely these issues, is hence, automatically solved. No longer are erratic signals received by the brain from the nerves. In turn, that would mean, no weird sounds reach the ear drums from the brain cells either.

All of the several primary causes are detected in the holistic treatment regimes, along with the multiple trigger factors. The body of the affected person is treated as a single whole structure for this, and once the causes of tinnitus have been identified, remedies are suggested accordingly. On the contrary, only the symptoms of the ailment are treated by the conventional mode of treatment. Since the basic causes of the condition remain within the body, tinnitus problems can relapse in such cases. Thus, there is no scope of doubt that holistic treatments are indeed far better than conventional methods.

Learn How to Achieve Tinnitus Relief

By Barbara Thomson

Since Tinnitus has no proven cure, treatments are given to help in relieving patients from its annoying symptoms. Tinnitus relief is possible with the help of these treatments. Tinnitus is not the disease. The tinnitus is just a flag sign of a disease that has caused damage to the cells of the inner ear. Factors that contribute to tinnitus are: injury, illness, prolonged exposure to loud noise, loss of hearing due to age, and adverse reaction to pharmaceuticals, or some other factors.

First thing that the doctor would look into when a patient has tinnitus, would be the wax inside the ear. If an ear has an abundant or hard wax, earwax exclusion would be done because it is one reason of having a tinnitus. But when the ear has minimal wax, then the doctor has to search for other culprits of the symptom. A vascular disease may be another factor that the doctor would eye for. If proven therefore that it is the reason for the symptom then medication may be prescribed to the patient to give a Tinnitus relief. But in cases where medication is not effective, then surgery would be the next best thing to handle the tinnitus. Medications for other systemic problem can give a patient tinnitus. When this happens, the doctor would change the dosage, or give them other drugs or may stop the prescribed medicine.

Masking or covering the internal noise could be another way of giving Tinnitus relief. White noise machine, as to be used periodically, could help the patient sleep well. The soothing sound can give the patients better sleep since patients with tinnitus is bothered with the internal noise during bedtime wherein it is more quiet.

Tinnitus could also be brought about by age. Doctors may recommend the usage of hearing aids or cochlear implants. Upon hearing external noises, Tinnitus relief could be achieved because it makes the internal sound unnoticeable. Anti-depressants and anti anxiety drugs’ calming effects are sometimes prescribe for a temporary Tinnitus relief.

Contrary to the belief that the cause of tinnitus is the damage to the parts of the ear, it usually affects the eardrums, cochlea, and nerve. This is due to the exposure of a loud sound and severe emotional or physical stress, a recent study showed that tinnitus, often called “ear noise” is a psychological matter and not of the structure of the ear. They have made the study that resulted to a conclusion that tinnitus will be noticed only during the time when the patient is left alone in a silent place for a period of time.

Another method for Tinnitus relief would be undergoing Habituation Therapy. This treatment indicates 80 percent of the success rate in its recent study. Tinnitus retraining therapy, as it is specifically called, is based on strong neurophysiologic evidence that the patient can ignore the sound from within the ear, just like a person can ignore other external noises regularly heard of everyday. In this therapy, it’s like the brain is being trained to give no negative reaction to ear noise. By doing so, the brain would be ignoring the irritating internal sound since it already is used to it.

Tinnitus Relief

By Miles Hartley

As you read more about tinnitus and tinnitus treatment you will find there is good evidence that herbs can play a big part in many patients’ tinnitus relief programs. This is not to say they are an essential part but we need to agree that they should not be dismissed as hocus pocus. Let me try to put this in perspective for you.

We have all become accustomed to reaching into the medicine cabinet for our relief from pain, for preventative medicines or medical cures. Many of the ailments we treat are admittedly brought on by our modern way of living, what we eat and drink, how we spend our leisure time, the general stress many of us experience. But many ailments have been around for centuries haven’t they? What did folks do in those days?

Let us remind ourselves that the invention of modern chemical medicines is relatively recent. For example Felix Hoffmann invented aspirin in 1897.

Here is an interesting connection – two thousand years earlier the Romans were grinding the leaves and bark of willow trees and using them as a cure for their fevers and for general pain relief. We now know that these contain the natural compound salicin which is very similar to the chemical name for aspirin – acetylsalicylic.

Yes we all know that this is just one example of naturally occurring substances being used to cure ailments long before the invention of modern medicines, so let us not dismiss herb and herbal remedies when we are experimenting with our tinnitus relief therapy.

You will read many testimonials for various herbs being used as part of tinnitus remedies. One of the most frequently mentioned is Gingko Biloba. This is an extract derived from the leaves of a unique species of trees called Ginkgos that are found in China and Japan, and interestingly can grow to a height of up to 160ft. There are many of them so I would guess we are not likely to run out for some time.

Apart from a tinnitus remedy the Gingko Biloba is believed to be an effective treatment for memory loss and dementia. This supplement and most others you may wish to try are readily available from health food shops and of course on line.

Please remember in your search for a tinnitus cure not to experiment with herbs, or anything else for that matter, that are not recognized as being suitable for human consumption. There are plenty already tested and known to be safe. Nevertheless if you have any undesired side effects stop taking it immediately and consult your medical practitioner if necessary.

A few final comments on the use of herbs as part of your tinnitus relief program – like so many other possible tinnitus cures there is still a chance that what works extremely well for me has no effect whatsoever on you. I am afraid that is the nature of tinnitus therapy. So give the herbal treatment a trial period but if after a few weeks you feel no discernible reduction in your tinnitus noise or recurrence you should think about stopping the trial. Wasting money is not a useful part of any tinnitus relief program.
