Pulsating Tinnitus
Auditory and visual hallucinations?
I have never experienced anything like this before. I had been drinking last night, not too much though and I went to bed late…
I keep hearing this pulsating ringing noises in both my ears that coincided with my heart beating. When I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, I saw this clock spinning in my mind.
I went into another room and I laid down and the ringing got louder. On the wall I saw what looked like a puppet show of some sorts/video game cartoon. I literally got the hell out of my friend’s house and drove home. I swear I never have been so freaked out in all of my life, or at least for many years. When I got home to my place, it all stopped when I turned the fan on in my room.
I thought this could be the onset of some sort of schizophrenic condition. But, I have looked up this one thing called Tinnitus. Look it up if you have a second…oh and my ears still hurt today from the perceived ringing of last night.
What the hell is going on?
The ringing is probably tinnitus. It can change with the position you are in, exertion/heart rate, barometric pressure, lot’s of things including alcohol. It can also pulsate with your heartbeat. It can come and go. Different ppl experience it differently. What you describe sounds like what I get. As for the next day, unless you were exposed to very loud sounds, the “hurt” is probably that it’s continuing, just at a different “volume.” (Sorry, I know the phenomenon, but don’t know how to explain it.) It’s not psychiatric.
Seeing puppets on the wall given what else you describe sounds like a slight buzz and partial sleep state plus perhaps fueled by anxiety about the tinnitus. If something like that happens again while you are up and about fully awake w/o any drugs or alcohol in your system, then get concerned enough to make an appointment with your doctor. Your doc would then rule out medical causes and refer you to a psychiatrist as appropriate. For now, write it off as strange but nothing more.
